Stop telling me kids are resilient

When i talk about children’s mental health or the impact of school closures, the immediate response is “kids are resilient”. I can’t stand it. I have friends whose kids have developed eating disorders, panic attacks, have stopped attending school, have started self-harming. All have lost stability and social structures. Ontario has decided that “essential” includes Dollar stores, cell phone stores, furniture manufacturing - but not children’s education and future. Sure I can protect my children from COVID abut I cannot protect them from the larger, lasting impacts these lockdown/school closures are having. Devastated.
