Don’t Call Me a “Hero”
Mon Apr 26 2021
Being called a “healthcare hero” makes me incredibly angry now. I keep going because my patients deserve it. Now I cannot to surgeries AGAIN. My patients are suffering and ORs are closed. And when I am on call, operating on emergency patients for whom we don’t know if they have COVID or not, my whole team is at risk... and we have not been fully vaccinated, despite pleading with the government to allow healthcare workers to get their second dose. My friends working in the ICU are exhausted.
We are frustrated, isolated, lonely, and tired. And when I read comments from people online saying that this is all a hoax, it is so deflating and crushing. That is my COVID story.
